HOW DID FOODDIRECT BEGIN?

The concept for FoodDirect was developed back in mid '99 due to an evident lack of a complete online supermarket in Brisbane. It seemed that most other states were furnished with this convenient luxury so why not our hometown? Thus the beginning of our mission!

A management team was formed with collectively 60 years of retail and IT experience to embark on the task of setting up the business and to cut a long story short… here we are! It has been a dynamic path of coordinating e-commerce with conventional distribution networks and we believe that our research into online shopping around the world has geared us to appreciate, anticipate and prepare for the challenges that inevitably arise in a business of this nature.

A revolutionary scheme that guarantees you consistent beef tenderness and quality'

FoodDirect is a licensed MSA supplier meaning that we fully support and cooperate with the stringent procedures in place with maintaining MSA quality assurance. The scheme is a joint initiative of the Federal Government and the beef industry. All carcasses are DNA tested and recorded so if your meat is not 100% tender, there is not just a money back guarantee, but the meat can be traced right back to the paddock when it came from to find out why it is not of the highest quality.

All our meat including our MSA is supplied by Brisbane's Chef's Partner, Brisbane's supplier of gourmet meat with a reputation for outstanding quality and consistency.

Their state of the art facility is located at Morningside and is fully HACCUP compliant (government regulations for stringent cleanliness and working procedures). Their meat is nothing short of outstanding and if you ever want a sample, I recommend dinner at the Pineapple Hotel, Kangaroo Point. It's nice to know the meat back home in your fridge is from the same place and of the same outstanding quality!

Packaging of our Meat

Most of our meat is vacuum packaged to protect and prolong the life of your meat. If this is a new way of packaging for you let us outline some of the benefits of vacuum packaging.

1. Vacuum packaging creates an oxygen-reduced environment that retards the growth of aerobic spoilage organisms such as yeasts, moulds and certain harmful food bacteria. These organisms are responsible for off-odours, slime and other spoilage symptoms.
2. Prevents colour deterioration in raw meats and also prevents water loss from the meat allowing it to maintain all its natural juices.
3. The BEST advantage is that vacuum packaging allows you to keep certain cuts of meat in the refrigerator for up to 10 days without the need to freeze it !!
   No more health risks by leaving meat out all day to defrost. You take straight from the fridge what you need. The meat (so long as your fridge is around 1-3 degrees) actually ages in the fridge making it more tender !!

Enough about meat !! Let's just say - we have done our best to provide you with an outstanding meat service and if for any reason you are unsatisfied please KEEP THE PORTION OF MEAT and contact us immediately.


The recommended time for poultry or meat with bones in it (ie. T-bone, ribs etc) is no longer than 3 nights in the fridge. Red meat, bone free (ie. eye fillet, rib fillet, blade etc) can stay in the fridge for up to 10 days as long as the fridge is between 0-3deg and the vacuum seal has not been pierced in the pack.

Market fresh produce is the key to healthy eating! Our buyers have over 30 years combined experience in handling, packaging and choosing perfect fruit and vegetables. We buy the majority of our produce fresh from the Brisbane Markets every morning with specific instructions to buy only the best on offer.

You can be assured that the produce you receive has not only been chosen by professionals but has NOT been handled by every Tom, Dick and Harry before you receive it. It is FoodDirect's policy to be particularly fussy about produce and handle it carefully, a minimum of times!
